A brief description of both the books by author Rukmini Vijayakumar is given below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>DISCOVERING DEVI<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWhat if I could imbibe my life with the clarity of thought, precision, control and simultaneous surrender that I am able to wield as a performer? Wouldn\u2019t life change inexplicably for the better?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I wanted to work with a friend who could perhaps capture moments that I am completely unaware of during the performative experience. In 2020, Anup and Vivian joined me on tour and captured our journey during a series of Shivaratri performances. \u00a0We created two books that describe this journey from two different perspectives: the performer\u2019s perspective and the viewer\u2019s perspective. Awaiting clarity, I spent many months considering my options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">While I was in the midst of this confusion, someone asked me, \u201cWhat brings you closer to yourself?\u201d I didn\u2019t respond immediately, but in my mind the answer was clear. \u201cDance brings me closer to myself,\u201d I thought. It was such an odd question, yet strangely it influenced a life decision. How can one be closer to or farther from oneself?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I knew that dance would begin to reveal something to me at some point in time, but I wasn\u2019t sure of what this thing would be. The act of dancing holds something within it that I wanted to discover. What if I could imbibe my life with the clarity of thought, precision, control and simultaneous surrender that I am able to wield as a performer? Wouldn\u2019t life change inexplicably for the better?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>The applause bursts like rain clattering<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>From a cloud too heavy to hold,<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>My elation bathes me as sweat trickles<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>Down my forehead a moment before<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>It stings my eye to remind me to see,<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>They applaud the dance, not me.<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>If I were to fall prey, my dance entwined<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>With only moments of applause to remind<\/i><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><i>Of my days of yore.
